A1C1 tests can be real life savers |

|
Prediabetes and diabetes are dangerous conditions that can cause serious health complications. That’s why it’s so important to get your blood sugar tested regularly. The A1C1 test is simple and results are usually available quickly.
What’s an A1C1 test?
The A1C1 test is a blood test for diagnosing type 1 and type 2 diabetes, screen for prediabetes, and monitor how well you’re managing your blood sugar (glucose) levels. An A1C1 test result will indicate the average blood glucose level for about the preceding three months. |
|
What do the numbers mean?
A1C1 test results display percentage numbers. The higher the A1C1 level, the weaker your body's blood sugar control, and the higher your risk of diabetes complications. Here’s what the test result numbers mean:- 5.6 percent or below means normal
- 5.7 to 6.4 percent indicates prediabetes
- 6.5 percent or above means diabetes
|
When should I get an A1C1 test?
If you already know you have prediabetes or diabetes, you should do A1C1 testing at least twice a year. For type 1 diabetes patients, more frequent (e.g., every three months) testing is advised, particularly if you and your doctor are adjusting treatment, setting blood sugar level targets, or if you’re pregnant. |
